The suspension of the World Bank Doing Business report in the interest of rectifying data irregularities, as well as the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, presents an opportunity to re-evaluate the business and economic indicators used as tools for policymaking.
This web-based seminar aims to facilitate discourse and exchange of ideas among stakeholders on rethinking the metrics for business and economic indicators; expound on how the current economic indicators create incentives for policies that can be detrimental to the economy in the long run; discuss how the effects of these problematic incentives and policies were exacerbated by the current global pandemic; and present ideas on how to develop a more inclusive reporting of competitiveness, ease of doing business, and the state of government regulation.
