The digital economy, including cross-border services, digital trade, and e-commerce, contributes to democratic and economic development by expanding market access for local businesses, promoting inclusive trade, creating jobs, and expanding tax revenue for governments to provide essential services. As the prevalence of digital tools and services expand, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, national and regional policies and regulations that facilitate greater competitiveness and inclusiveness require greater coordination between government, industry, civil society as well as targeted collaboration across Southeast Asia.
The Center for International Private Enterprise will host an online discussion to offer perspectives on how business and government can cooperate to advance more inclusive digital transformation by leveraging flexible approaches such as regulatory sandboxes and shared monitoring obligations for a rapidly evolving tech landscape.
